Why is khan academy bad

They ONLY teach you with videos, which the instructors are terrible at making. They just do a bunch of problems. They never clearly state the main topic you're learning, rather they have you try to interpret their mess themselves. I once watched another Khan Academy video that was a gigantic mess.

Usually the video makers for Khan use digital drawing tools to demonstrate the problem. In that one video, it was a literal mess of lines. Lines stacked on top of other lines that are intersecting more lines which are covering another line. All drawn in random colors, making it look like a toddler trying art for the first time.

I was shocked by how irrelevant and useless they could be. The students in the comments had a much better method for that topic. Using Khan's messy drawing method, I got zeroes everytime because they just want you to draw and guess precise mathematical measures.

Using the student's methods which actually had reasoning and math to it, I aced the topic. If you look at the comments in EVERY video, you can see the frustration and confusion of the commenters.

Luckily there are experienced students replying to them, doing a much better job than the "professional teachers. All of them are like "I don't get it. Can someone explain? It'll make you suffer. It'll make you feel like you're terrible when actually, the topic is extremely simple and you're very capable of understanding it. Don't use these trash sites. Teen, 16 years old Written by rotaryking July 4, Website quality is trash.

You also have to restart this process every single time this happens to achieve mastery. To make matters worse, some correct answers are counted as incorrect.

Brother has punched a hole in a monitor because of these problems and absolutely hates it. A few videos fail to explain or overexplain topics, and it makes some topics difficult to understand. Also, video player is clunky and often fails to allow keyboard controls, and sometimes kicks you out of the video when you try to use them.

OK videos, bad website quality. Avoid using the site, and just stick to a few of the YouTube videos if you need help with a subject. Kid, 11 years old July 22, Why does this site exist? I personally think this website should be deleted and forgotten forever. When you just get one question wrong, you have to restart the entire thing. I was doing a question, and it said "which of these dots are above the line", and clicked the dots above the line.

I got it wrong, as it wanted me to do the dots under the line, which proves how bad this site is. All of the tools in this website are clunky and useless. The video player is awful. Pressing the spacebar to pause the video sometimes kicks you out of the video player altogether. The only good part of the website are the actual videos. You can actually take notes, if you go on the video on YouTube. I think the people who made this website should go back to school themselves and learn how to build a working site.

Almost every modern-day kid, including me, has their share of stumbling-blocks in education. It can be frustrating to just gape during an awkward, deficient "lesson"- especially in math - and then be given a list of problems and not register or identify them. Trust me, I know - the algebra tutorials on K.

Of course, there are tutorials on a variety of subjects, but the website is especially known for its mathematical clarity. You will NOT be sorry. Kid, 12 years old January 1, Khan Academy is really helpful for all types of students and focuses on learning :3 As a personal user of Khan Academy and a 7th grader who is studying Algebra I, I absolutely love this truly educational website.

My dad encourages me to use it at times so I can improve my skills in math since I'm pretty much below average in my grade for Algebra I and I noticed that Khan Academy also aims at the things you may have trouble with in math and sees what level you are in math.

This website is also constantly improving how it runs and what it has in store for you to learn. It also lets you receive points so you can feel rewarded for any skill you have mastered for cool profiles and things you can get on the website so you don't feel like you did anything after mastering a skill you may or may not have had trouble on.

Overall, Khan Academy is a great website for students who have trouble on math and is really good from the scale from kindergarteners to high schoolers. Read my mind 1. Go to Common Sense Review. Facebook Twitter Pinterest Email Print. So I used a different email to create a parent account just so I could delete both accounts. Linked to the first account and tried to delete- it would not let me. There was no tab to do so as was clearly shown in the help center of the web site.

Needless to say I now have random accounts- all created in order to somehow delete the original account and I cant delete any of them. Read my mind 5. Adult Written by Saker A. January 27, No 1 on 1 help. Adult Written by mait1 December 30, Everything is from a Math Geek point of view I like the video learning concept, but it does not follow through.

This is yet another failed attempt to educate by educators who fail to understand reality. I am an adult learner trying to study for a CLEP test for required college credits that have nothing to do with my major. I am horrible at math and I know this. I need help from a source that will provide the math content in an easy to understand real life way. This is not what Khan Academy does. It seems that Sal does try, but it is more about an advanced math geek teaching his lower level math geek child.

The problem is most of the world is not made up of math geeks. This site would be a great resource if it was geared more for real life scenarios that everyone understands. I see Sal trying to do this a little bit, but it seems that he is struggling to relate to a world outside of math and failing. A major missed requirement in teaching is knowing your audience. This site desperately needs a more balanced instructor and lesson plans that enable students to learn math through real world situations.

What they don't need is half-explained concepts that are starting from a point of what is a given concept for a math geek and not even on the radar for the rest of the population. This is a complete teaching fail. I had such high hopes for Khan Academy, but it seems that it is much like the American educational system, just going through the motions without any care to accomplish the goal of learning. Read my mind 3. Adult Written by robe d. February 14, You're not going to find much better I don't understand how people can complain about khan academy.

Their videos are usually crystal clear and although may take extra time to explain concepts, they really hammer it home. I'm a 3rd year engineering student and I still use khanacademy. They have everything from basic mathematical concepts, to difficult organic chemistry, physics, and even some basic engineering. You're not going to find a better website, and frankly, if you're saying that khanacademy is too boring and annoying, then you're really not trying to learn. Helped me decide. Adult Written by FamilyOf7 July 25, Had useful details.

Parent Written by Lori C. November 19, Good informative resource Great option to use as a refresher for concepts. However, we found Beestar to be more useful in terms of helping kids learn concepts and apply them to questions. Also they have good reward systems and GT sections for kids that need more challenges.

Read my mind 1. Adult Written by NielsB November 25, Great for kids, good for students. I think this website provides a great supplement to the education provided in schools, and might even replace it one day. For me as a university-student there are only a few subjects that are actually relevant, but the childish-badge system still works like a charm. Just don't make your students use Edgenuity.

Will draw the answers to all of your questions with his crayons, but very few of them will be of any use. I think Khan Academy should be banned from school and we should only use it if we want to.

I have been forced to use Khan Academy for school and it is the worst math tool I have ever used. I would never in a million years recommend this to anyone. I have not learned one thing from this website. If you are reading this to see if you should use Khan please don't you will regret it the moment you start. It provides lessons and videos of every topic in math. Its fun to learn when you can get points to upgrade your avatar. This is a good site that makes learning fun.

Khan Academy is ok but the directions arent really explaining that much to me and I keep getting the answers wrong because of the bad directions. Sal khan Needs to fix this site and subjects. Khan academy is the best learning website I've ever seen. I've been using it since 4th grade and it's lessons really help. Sal Khan explains concepts in a clear way, and the questions are relevant to the videos. Their JavaScript lessons introduced me into computer science, and their World History lessons helped me win the geography bee at my school last year.

The badges you get from lessons give students a sense of progress and something to work for. Khan academy works great for online distance learning, a supplement to regular lessons, and works well if you want to learn something. Don't do khan academy because you have to pay when you want to sign up. But it is free to schools and that's the only thing that's good. And if you get questions wrong, then you have to do it over again that stresses me out.

Much better than many other websites. And you don't have to pay anything. Easy to learn and use. Free classes on wide variety of subjects. I use Khan academy a lot. They also have some good lessons for kids. This learning game is very good to my 4 brothers and sisters, i have been them long enough to know this, i thought it was very good, so I got it my self! It was AMAZING, you click on what grade you are in im in 4th then if you are having trouble with a lesson at school, you can go to that, it has all of the lessons a preschooler, kindergardener, 1 grader 2 grader ect.

Should need. And it goes up to college! So my point of view, people that do not have the app, get it! It will be right for you! Khan Academy is great! You can learn so much. I learnt how to do trigonometry, then trigonometry with radians, how to solve some one-dimensional motion physics word problems, cryptography, and yet I'm still learning!

It's a great way to study for tests and just having fun while learning! Without going to university I start learning on Khan academy YouTube channel for free. The quality of their content make knowledge accessible to every one thank you. There is an old adage in education, that 'Spaced' learning is more effective than 'Clumped' learning.
